When I saw the D on Monday, she asked to look through my food journal – which I absolutely abhore, btw, who wants to list all the foods they’ve eaten in a day and start shrieking out about the cals they’ve eaten? –- and she was noticeably impressed that I was eating more, but noticeably deeeestressed because I seem to be lacking an invite to the protein party. So she was giving me suggestions of ways I could get protein sans furry creatures, and one of them was hummus.
HUMMUS?!
I thought only therapists and new-agers ate that stuff, plus I’m not Greek. So anyway she was telling me it was really yummy and had protein and could be eaten with a variety of things. So I went and bought the brand she suggested and only dared open it last night while I was watching the oh so amazing premiere of the Biggest Loser. Jillian can biggest MY loser any day. She’s totally georg and I could probably make love to her eyebrows. EEEks. Annnnywaaaay,…
So I tried it, and initially like eeewy’d out because all I could taste was creamy white lemonity stuff. But I gave it another try…and liked it! So I began gleefully noshing on my hummus with some Triscuits, thinking maybe I am a new-ager after all…and then turned brilliant with this thought:
ME to hubby: Hey Brandon. Do you want to hummus my bummus and like lick it off?
He said no. (But he would with BBQ sauce.)
But the offer still stands.
Any takers? Jillian?

I would totally hummus your bummus! it'd be hot!
That is so freaking funny. I used to always say "whatever hums your bum" (you know like whatever floats your boat) but now I will be officially changing that phrase to "whatever hummus's your bummus's!"
"whatever hums your bum." krista, i likes it!
OK, I have no desire to do anything with your bummus, BUT. I do love hummus. Luke even loves it. So, send it over to me. I will eat it...with carrots, or cucumbers, or really good in a whole wheat pita with feta cheese and sprouts.
And did you see Jillian last night??? Man, she looks good.
Hummus is weird. I never buy it, but I'll eat it at parties and stuff. I think it's best with pita bread, but that's just me. Maybe I should buy some. Maybe it can be my next grocery store experiment.
That's hilarious!
I looooooove hummus. I've been eating it since I lived in Denver. I like it with pita bread and even sugar snap peas...you just dip them in and wa-la! It's amazing. I've even tried dipping pretzels in it, but that's not so yummy as the others. I'm glad you like it!! : )
And in reply to your comment on my post about my "meth-house", I think you do win just b/c of the positive test. Obviously I didn't get that test done. BUT......my house still LOOKS pretty ganged-up on....especially b/c our neighbors have a brilliant house and they make mine look so utterly shameful.
I lurvs hummus! Try eating it with pita chips - it's delish!
wow i'm impressed ya'll nosh on hummus! i'd of course heard of it but never thought about actually eating it. i should totally try it with pita n stuff. now i eat it with triscuits and (don't be grossed out) i dipped my pizza in it tonight and me likes.
jb i think that sounds like an excellent idea re: the grocery/hummus challenge. there's lots of different kinds though, and i've only tried this one kind on the recommendation of my D.
ok, so maybe you no likey because you are dipping it in your pizza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Put the pizza down, and try these:
sliced apple
bakes pita chips
carrots
sliced bell peppers
cucumber
bagel chips
even tortilla chips...
put IN a whole heat pits with alfafa, chopped tomato and cucmber and if you like a little bit of feta cheese
yeah, um...I married a Greek....
ok, so you REALLY wont like it if you try it in whole heat pits...that would be gross...like sweaty under arm pits, I am thinking...yeah..typing too fast...
WHOLE WHEAT PITA...that is what I meant
I love hummus! I love the garlic hummus. Amazing! Try some pita bread with the hummus! It is heavenly! :)
Take care!
love, kristin
Ha! Any day! :) I love hummus, and it is indeed a great way to catch the protein train sans furry creatures. xoxoxo
laura, my lover of mine, thanks for the suggestions. and guess what?? i DID like it with pizza! hummus is AMAZING! it can go with anything. loves it! (and you!)
Oh my I love hummus. I used to eat it all the time. Its also great in sandwiches.
I used to make my own...if you want a recipe its a lot cheaper that way than buying the brands. Plus you get to add the flavors you like.
I had never ever HEARD of Hummus until I moved back East for awhile. Apparently its all popular out there. Who knew?! I think Im not a fannage because of the name...HUMMUS?! Really? Sounds like something that grows on the side of a rock.
I personally believe hummus should be the sixth food group. Everyone should eat two healthy portions everyday which would not only give us all the protein we need but if everyone had garlic breath then nobody would right?
Hummus inside a pita with sliced cucumber and/or egglplant and some fresh, chopped mint = lunch.
Hey lover,
I can't help but grin slyly at all of the grief cfc and cfc-ers have given me over the years over being a veg and diggin stuff like hummus! Geeeezzzz! Good to hear y'all are slowly coming around to it! :) Try costco's meza brand. I likey mucho. Hey, we haven't done a costco run in waayyyy tooooo lonnnnng. Let's fix that mkay?
I heart you bebay!
lana, i bought a brand at costco, but i don't think it was meza. but i might be defected and totally wrong. but whatever. but yes, costco! why do i love that store? oh, probably because i spend WAY TOO MUCH $$ when i go there!
why don't you come over to my place and see the new pad and you and W can chat it up and we could do some RR??
i personally like hummas... but not to be a downer... have you seen the movie "don't mess with the zohan?". there is hummas in that movie....
You might enjoy this.
Just like you enjoy hummus.

Funniest blog in a long time(like maybe a day or two). I, as usual, needed a laugh. Thanks.
I tried Hummus on December 27th. You may ask why I remember the date so clearly? I tried Hummus...it looks just like that picture. I was not a fan. The texture was disgusting. BTW Jillian looks extra hot in that picture. So I don't like Hummus, but I do LOVE Jillian!
So, I am clearly behind again already on reading blogs. But I still want to comment.
Had you really never had hummus before? Not even when you were a kid? Does that come of being a Utahn? I think that's kind of hilarious. But... I actually don't like hummus at all (which is not surprising because I don't like garlic at all). However, I'm somewhat fascinated with hummus because it apparently is the one and only thing White People Like (have you seen that blog? It rather freaks me out, but it's interesting...) that I don't like--and that gives me hope that maybe I'm not the absolute ultimate offender in terms of being liberal, overprivileged, and clueless. Not very much hope, though. So maybe I should just give in and make some garlic-less hummus?
I like the guy trainer better than Jillian. She's a little to harsh sometimes.
Everytime I think of hummus I laugh because of this one movie, oh geez. I can't even remember what it's called. My roommates were watching it (it's that one with the zohan) and there's this one part where he's describing hummus and is like "It is a diarrhea like substance..bla bla" and so I always laugh when I see hummus now.
I LOVE your random questions. Hey honey, will you hummus my bummus? HAH HA! You make me smile. :) I wouldn't, but only because I don't like chick peas.
Jillian looks like she's giving you a quizzical look after asking her if she wants to hummus your bummus. ha ha ha!
oh my word. I don't think I'd be brave enough to paint myself with hummus...
I actually can't stand the stuff. But don't tell my family that... they're all totally into it. I think i've only had one kind that I loved before and I've never been able to find it since. Bummer. What's the kind you got? Maybe I should try it....
Protien. I have that problem too. Especially when PG. The foods I usually try to "Use" for protien are Soy milk (surprising? it has 8 g per 8 oz!) and peanut butter. Peanut butter is my friend...
