Button Bullsh*t

Blargh
SO B U G G E D. So after I woke up from my surgery yesterday, of course, the first thing to come out of my mouth was me screeching bloody hell!, BUT the second telling Big B I wanted him to help me look at my cute new button waiting for me on my tummy.

I looked down, and…
There was no button.

There was a tube.

A different tube than the one I’d had before, but still, a tube. I thought to myself it was probably the tube that you connected to the button, and shrugged it off, thinking I’d yoink it off later.

Later that night I tried pulling at the stupid thing, only to be very unhappy I did, cuz it hurt like a mother. So this morning, I called the GI doc, asking him how to take off the tube so it was just the button.

What does he tell me?

Oh, that there is no button. It’s just another tube. Another long, ugly-ass, expensive tube. A tube that this girl will not be paying for, because this girl was misinformed, and when scheduled for surgery, was told she was getting a button placed. He tried to tell me that it was a really cool tube, and I was one of the first in Utah to get it, and it sits at a right angle, and you can’t see it through clothing as much, blah blah blah, but snapdragons I’m PISSED. I can’t afford another tube, no matter how cool it is. I would not have done the surgery if I had known this. I wanted a button. I came out with a tube.

I was lied to.

I am mad.

Medical Malpractice much? I'm so sorry. If I could make I wish. I would wish for you a shiny bright yellow button.....

Hang in there. You are amazing and have so much strength. You go through so much and I am so proud of you. I'm always here for you. ALWAYS!

And rightly so, especially because placing a button is an office procedure requiring no gen anesthesia. But I probably don't need to tell you that. So sorru brie. Stand up for yourself. This is wrong!

When I had surgery, they put what I was having done in writing, and then I signed it. If they mixed it up, then you have every right to be mad. Lame. I would definitely say something. Is it the GI doc that you were talking about that held brandon's hand in the gift shop? I would talk to him again and ask what's up. What did they say after they explained the whole cool-new-tube thing? Did you say you were unhappy and were expecting a mickey? Did they change their minds mid-procedure? Why?

I can think of nothing to say. Except I am so mad too. For you. I wish that I could do something. It is grossly unfair. You go through so much and you did nothing to deserve this!! I know that you will think of something. You can spend your whole weekend plotting revenge!

Hey Brie,

Between my two undergraduate degrees, I had to do a lot of research on medical malpractice claims, and medical procedures "gone wrong" so to speak. It sounds to me as though, maybe, just maybe, thye performed the "wrong procedure" on you. Perhaps when it came down to it, they had lost sight of what they were really suppose to do, and THOUGHT you were only in there for a tube replacement (for another same type of tube) without realizing you were really in there for a mick-key.

Did your doctor happen to mention why they failed to place the button? The only reason why I could see a physician not following through with what they were suppose to do- is if there was a complication during the surgery or if they realized that what they were wanting to do (place a mick-key) wasn't going to work-out afterall, hence, forcing them to place another tube like the one you alreadu had. I would certainly ask this question, if you haven't already.

The fact of the matter is simple: You paid for something in which they didn't deliver on.

Fight for yourself. Fight for what you were owed! DON'T LET ANYONE WALK ALL OVER YOU!

I believe in you girl! I know you can do it!

Keep us posted!!!

well even replacing your tube should have been an outpatient one day surgery think with no need for gen anesthetic. The micky has a cool tube connection that sits on a right angle so his reply is BS. You have every right to be mad and I would try to get them to do it over and give you a mick...Hugs. I am sorry you are having to deal with this.

wow....what does he have to say? Your doctor, I mean? Did they say why or what happened? There must be a reason or it was a very bad mistake and they need to pay for that in more ways than one! Fight it....scare their asses off.

You need to look at the procedure form you signed - that would be the only to prove he did something wrong. Do you have a copy of that? I am sorry, what a sucky situation. xoxo
